Frame and deck construction
Since it’s a heavy-duty treadmill, it pretty much goes without saying that its deck and frame have a sturdy construction. The frame is steel-made, and up to a point similar to the frame of the Sunny SF-T7603 running treadmill. However, this model features thicker upright posts, which are also slightly curved. All steel parts in the frame are coated with corrosion resistant paint, with a silver hue, this being the only available color so far.
The Sunny SF-T7514 features a folding frame. The folding mechanism consists of a hydraulic “leg”, which provides assistance when lowering the deck, preventing it from dropping. When fully unfolded, this treadmill doesn’t take too much of floor space, compared with other models, such as the Life Fitness T5 for example. It has a footprint of 61″L x 33″W (155 x 84 cm), while the highest point of the console reaches 52″ (132 cm) above floor level. With the deck folded up, the machine’s depth is reduced to a bit more half. Its folded dimensions are: 38″L x 33″W x 55″H inches (96 x 84 x 140 cm).
The front part of the metallic base features a set of small wheels, in order to facilitate the transport and handling of the folded machine. The front base of the frame features adjustable stabilizers with rubber caps, while the rear of the deck integrates a folding bar, which also serves as incline.
The Sunny Health and Fitness SF-T7514 offers a walking surface of 45.5″L x 20″W (115.5 x 51 cm), which should be enough for users of all sizes. It uses a 1-ply heavy-duty belt, resistant to stretching. The deck also integrates shock absorption and electromagnetic tension elements, in order to provide a more forgiving workout for your joints.
Although it’s a walking treadmill, its deck is extremely sturdy. It can actually support users up to 350 lbs (158.7 kg). It’s also pretty heavy, the deck alone weighing more than 100 lbs. But, most of the deck’s weight is at the front where the motor is, thus when folding it up, you will be lifting less than half its weight.
Incline and step-up height
This Sunny Health & Fitness treadmill features a manual incline system. As we’ve mentioned above, the incline system is given by the rear stabilizer bar of the deck, which can be locked in three positions via a set of two pins.
By removing the pins completely, the rear part of the deck will basically rest on the floor, supplying the maximum incline setting, which is approx. 8%.
At 0% incline, in other words with the rear base bar locked in its top position, the deck stands at approx. 8″ (20 cm) above floor level. Therefore, to avoid any inconveniences, you’ll have to make sure that the ceiling height in the room where the treadmill will be in use is higher than your own height, plus about 10-11 inches.
Motor
This Sunny treadmill is equipped with a 2.5 HP peak duty motor. This motor is designed to withstand prolonged workouts without overheating or losing performance. Also, it can keep a steady movement of the belt, even for users up to 350 lbs (158.7 kg).
The motor offers a speed range between 0.5 MPH and 4 MPH. 0.5 MPH is the starting speed setting, but above that, speed can be adjusted in 0.1 MPH increments, which is great, as you can easily find the most appropriate pace for your workout. The console also offers 4 keys for quick speed adjustment, for the 1,2,3 and 4 speed settings.
Evidently, since it’s a motorized treadmill, it requires to be connected to a power circuit of 110v. It also has an On/Off switch.
Fitness computer
The fitness computer supplied with the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7514 treadmill is not entirely a basic one. First of all, it features a 5″ LCD display, with blue LED backlight, which offers a better reading in a darker room, or if the sunlight falls onto it. The digits on the display are also fairly large. This fitness computer tracks time, distance, calories and pulse, also indicating the current speed setting. It’s not telemetry enabled, which means it cannot read pulse via a HR chest strap transmitter. Thus, you benefit from a pulse reading, you have to hold onto the stainless steel pulse sensors integrated in the handlebars. The handlebars also integrate gradual speed controls.
This fitness fitness features 12 built-in, segment-based workout programs, which automatically adjust the speed on the walking belt. It’s not difficult to operate. It features keys for gradual speed adjustment, but also quick keys for the 1,2,3,4 speed settings. The programs have their own button, which you have to press repeatedly to scroll through them until you reach the desired one.
The console integrates a media holder (or reading rack), placed above the controls. The dashboard also features two molded accessory holders, which can serve as supports for your water bottle, remote control, phone, earplugs etc.
Since the treadmill is motorized and requires to be connected to a power circuit, the monitor will also draw power from it. In other words, there’s no battery management required. And finally, the console features the magnetic safety key, which allows you to automatically stop the belt.
Assembly and Maintenance
The most complicated part of a treadmill is its deck. For this Sunny treadmill the deck comes fully assembled. In fact, there isn’t much assembly to take care of. All you need to do is secure the upright posts in place, and setup the console. Tools for assembly are included, as well as a hard copy of the manual which provides clear, step-by-step assembly instructions.
Just as for most treadmill maintenance requires the lubrication of the deck. The package comes with a bottle of lubricant, and instructions for lubrication are provided in the manual. The belt may come pre-lubricated or may require lubrication before the first use of the treadmill.

- Programs: Nine programs in addition to manual mode add guidance and variety to treadmill exercise. (For comparison, many treadmills under $500 lack workout programming.) For convenience each program profile is printed onto the console; see the challenge before making your selection.
- Data: This treadmill’s computer is very simple but worth mentioning. Trainees get feedback about time, distance, speed, calories and pulse. (Note that pulse is measured through contact sensors and isn’t up to hospital-level standards.) This fitness machine can also calculate BMI.
- Handrail Controls: For convenience during workouts, speed controls are built into the handrails as well as the console.
- Media Ledge: When entertainment is included, workout time can fly by. A ledge for supporting a smartphone or tablet computer is built into the Sunny treadmill’s console.
- Speed: The maximum speed on this unit is 9 mph. While that’s not quite the industry standard, it’s impressive in the domain of ultra-cheap treadmills.
- Compact and Foldable Frame: With its footprint of 27″ x 62″, this treadmill demands less floor space than most. It can be folded to become even more compact. What We Don’t Like:- Small Incline: The Sunny Health & Fitness Treadmill has a 3-level manual incline, but the incline isn’t very useful to most trainees. The steepest setting is just 5%. That’s enough to replicate the effect of wind resistance and slightly rev up calorie burn, but most treadmills with inclines have max settings of at least 10%. The steeper the incline, the faster the calorie burn and the greater the options for targeted muscle toning.
- Track Size: Like most low-budget treadmills this Sunny model has a narrow and rather short track. The workout area measures 15.75″ wide and 48.82″ long. For comparison, most treadmills over $500 provide at least 20″ x 55″ workout areas.
- Weight Limit: This treadmill is only intended for users weighing 220 pounds or less.
- Warranty: A major drawback of this treadmill is the manufacturer’s short warranty. The frame is covered for just one year, the parts are covered for just 90 days, and Sunny Health & Fitness does not cover any labor expenses. However, extended warranties are available through independent retailers.
Our Verdict:
The Sunny Health & Fitness Treadmill (SF-T4400) is a $299 gamble. Compared with other treadmills under $500 it has a wider workout selection and a longer track, plus it features a convenient rack for holding a tablet computer. For many shoppers, however, the very limited warranty from Sunny Health & Fitness — just 90 days on parts! — is a deal breaker.
The Sunny Health & Fitness Treadmill might serve well for a season or two, but it doesn’t promise a long-term commitment. We’d advise most shoppers to keep browsing. You can easily find sub-$500 treadmills with better factory warranty packages… and in the $500-to-$999 treadmill category, sometimes a free two-year parts and labor warranty can be found.
